Romantic Movie Countdown

With only 11 days until Valentine’s Day, I am doing a Top 11 countdown of my favorite romantic movies, with a new movie every day.

Like many young girls,my introduction to love and romance came in the form of Disney films like, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. And to this day, I have a fondness for fairy tales and for books, poems, and plays that play with fairy tale motifs.

Although it didn’t come out until I was in high school, my favorite of the Disney Princess films is Beauty and the Beast. I picked this movie for a couple of reasons. As an aunt, Belle, the strong-minded bookworm, is the princess I most want my young nieces looking up to. I also really appreciate the fact that Belle and the Beast have to get to know each other before they fall in love. Lastly, I want my nieces to grow up believing that it is romantic for a guy to give a girl books! Although I thought the Beast looked way cuter before he transformed back into a prince and it bothered me that he never had a real name, Beauty and the Beast still remains one of my favorite Disney movies.

As an added bonus,  the Beauty and the Beast song, was the first song my husband and I ever danced to back when we started dating.

Honorable mentions include: Ever After, Enchanted, and the Muppets Take Manhattan (mainly because I loved watching Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog getting married when I was a kid) So what do you think of my first choice? What movies would make your top 11? Reply here, on Facebook or on Twitter (@Ciarraistudios #Valentinesmoviemarathon) and you may win next week’s Social Media Giveaway!

About Ciarrai

Hi. My name is Kerry but here online I tend to go by the Gaelic version of my name, Ciarrai. I am a woman in my mid-30's who lives on Long Island, NY, with my husband, Rob, several guitars, a Nikon D40, more yarn, beads and books than I care to admit to and a cat who has a million nicknames and quite a few theme songs. I have a B.A. in Psychology and have recently returned to college to pursue a teaching degree so that I can eventually get a job as a High School English teacher. In addition to my major obsessions (Reading, Beading, Knitting, Music and Photography), I also enjoy playing Board Games, going to Renaissance Faires, Museums and Broadway Musicals.
