I am working my way through The Portable Dorothy Parker. It’s my first real introduction to her writing and I am really enjoying it. I just have one little observation to make before I go back to reading the rest of the book. I find that the more I read of her poetry, the more I am convinced that Dorothy Parker and Edna St. Vincent Millay are probably having a marvelous time hanging out together in some literary afterlife. While Parker’s poems are a bit more tongue-in-cheek than Millay’s sonnets, they strike me as kindred spirits in how they approached life, love, and men.
