Bookish Halloween Costumes – Jane Austen Heroines

Still looking for a great Halloween costume idea? How about one of the lovely heroines from Jane Austen’s novels. Ladies like Elizabeth Bennet, Anne Eliot, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, and Emma Woodhouse would all make very suitable Halloween costumes, either just as they are written or (for fans of books like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) with a little additions of macabre, undead flair.

Etsy is a great source of Jane Austen / Regency Era costuming pieces. There are a ton of beautiful dresses (both ball gowns and dresses for wearing during the day). Bonnets, shawls, gloves, fans, reticules (or purses), and other accessories complete the look of a lovely (if generic) Austen lady.

However, you can make your costume specific to your favorite Austen heroine with one of Ciarrai Studios’ Jane Austen themed necklaces.

Either the Mr. Darcy’s Heart necklace or the Tea at Pemberley charm necklace would be perfect for ladies who wish to dress as Elizabeth Bennet, while the Captain Wentworth Love Letter Charm Necklace is the perfect addition to an Anne Eliot Costume.

You can go as either Elinor or Marianne Dashwood with the Tea with the Dashwoods Charm Necklace.

About Ciarrai

Hi. My name is Kerry but here online I tend to go by the Gaelic version of my name, Ciarrai. I am a woman in my mid-30's who lives on Long Island, NY, with my husband, Rob, several guitars, a Nikon D40, more yarn, beads and books than I care to admit to and a cat who has a million nicknames and quite a few theme songs. I have a B.A. in Psychology and have recently returned to college to pursue a teaching degree so that I can eventually get a job as a High School English teacher. In addition to my major obsessions (Reading, Beading, Knitting, Music and Photography), I also enjoy playing Board Games, going to Renaissance Faires, Museums and Broadway Musicals.
