Looking for the Secret Garden

Secret Garden Ring - Might I Have a Bit of EarthFor the first time in far too long, the sun is actually out and shining. Even though I am not known for any great skill with plants, I took one look at the blue sky and  was overwhelmed  with the urge to go out and plant a garden. Of course, if I look down  instead of up at the sky, I can see that there is still a ton of snow on the ground so my gardening urge is probably a little premature.  Still, it is encouraging to see some sign of better things to come and once again, I turn to books to help me keep sight of the fact that Spring, though not here yet, is on its way.

Today’s bit of literary therapy came in the form of The Secret Garden, a childhood favorite by Frances Hodgson Burnett. At the moment I like that Mary and Colin both have a bit of an attitude issue at the beginning of the book because they remind me of  me every time I see a weather report for another snow storm heading our way. I don’t throw fits that terrorize the household the way they do but I can definitely relate to the urge. It also helps that the story doesn’t jump straight to full-blown Spring but focuses quite a bit on the part of Spring that is still bare and a little bit chilly but with so much Magic and potential stirring underground that you can’t help feeling a little bit more hopeful.  In terms of helping me be patient and not succumb to the worse of my cabin fever, a gradual approach is probably best!

Secret Garden Book Purse from Novel CreationsThe other reason I have The Secret Garden on the brain is because  I have fallen in love with this gorgeous book purse by Novel Creations. Truth be told, I am crushing pretty hard on most of Karen’s lovely purses, and only the fact that I can’t decide which one to get first has kept me from getting one for myself! I know I am going to end up with a collection of them but I am just not sure which one to start with!

(By the way, have I mentioned that Karen has been kind enough to offer a discount to Ciarrai Studios customers who visit her shop? Thanks Karen!)

So with The Secret Garden (and a little sunshine) to lift my spirits, and this lovely Secret Garden Book Purse and my Secret Garden Ring, to give me a little Spring in my step (if you will pardon the pun), I think I am going to be ok after all.

About Ciarrai

Hi. My name is Kerry but here online I tend to go by the Gaelic version of my name, Ciarrai. I am a woman in my mid-30's who lives on Long Island, NY, with my husband, Rob, several guitars, a Nikon D40, more yarn, beads and books than I care to admit to and a cat who has a million nicknames and quite a few theme songs. I have a B.A. in Psychology and have recently returned to college to pursue a teaching degree so that I can eventually get a job as a High School English teacher. In addition to my major obsessions (Reading, Beading, Knitting, Music and Photography), I also enjoy playing Board Games, going to Renaissance Faires, Museums and Broadway Musicals.
