One of my favorite things in the world is reading good books, followed very closely by discussing good books with fellow book lovers. Last month, I had a blast participating in the Accordion to Kellie Literary Heroine Blog Party and it gave me an idea. What if we used the same blog party format and applied it to a virtual book club.
We could do a book a month (or every other month if people want more time – I am certainly open to suggestions!) and get to know new books and other readers. I haven’t figured everything out but I think it would go something like this:
#1. I post a poll to figure out which book everyone wants to read.
#2. Once the book is chosen, anyone who has the time and inclination to participate that month, reads the book by a certain deadline. We could also have a designated #tag for Facebook and #Twitter for thoughts and comments we want to share as we are reading.
#3. As we approach the deadline, I post a series of discussion questions for book club members to answer about the book.
#4. We all post our answers on our personal blogs / websites / tumblr pages / what have you then share the link here so that our fellow book club members can read and comment on them.
#5. Fabulous book conversations ensue.
#6. Repeat for a new book.
I really hope I get some response to this and that people want to participate. I love sharing my favorite books with fellow book lovers and I am always open to people introducing me to new books and authors. Plus it would be great to open up conversation with people who love books as much as I do and get to know some new friends.
What do you think? Are you in?
